Yoga Surf & Woodcraft
This is a retreat week Petra has dreamed off organising since the inception of Into The Wild Algarve! Her inspiration came from her own struggle a few years back, at which time she worked in the corporate world but found little satisfaction from the luxurious lifestyle it afforded her.
Petra was missing some essential, powerful elements and succeeded in bringing them into her life: namely, surf, a natural, mindful lifestyle and creativity. The week will therefore be centred upon these elements and organised alongside inspiring co-creators; Koen Knevel, a graphic designer and passionate surfer, and creative founders of ITWA, Dave & Sonya. When it comes to the activities, it’s pretty straightforward. This will be an entertaining and adventurous week, filled with 4 surf days and 1 day of wood crafting (optional), yoga and mindfulness practices.
However, rest assured that the week offers more than just fine surfing and creative crafting. Our place and the ocean will give you insight into how you cope with situations. Come and feel the power of nature and reflect with us on the choices you make in your daily life. All supported by healthy, freshly prepared food from our garden or locally sourced.
What might a day look like?
Every retreat at ITWA starts with a “settle into nature day”, as we like to call it. From experience we have learned it takes at least 34 hours to adjust to the peace and quiet of our natural environment, away from everything cities have to offer. It will quickly start feeling like a detox.
In light of this experience, the activities will start on Monday and all 4 surf days will be scheduled as follows:
07:30-08:00 Meditation, Pranayama by Petra
08:30-09:30 Healthy surf breakfast
09:30-10:00 Transfer to the beach
10:30-13:00 Surf lesson provided by local surf school
13:00-13:30 Healthy lunch at the beach
13:30-16:00 Surf lesson provided by local surf school
16:00-16:30 Transfer to ITWA
18:00-19:00 Relaxing yoga session (optional)
19:30-20:30 Fresh, homemade dinner
This is an example of how a day might go. Nothing is obligatory, you can do as you please and go with the flow! You don’t need to have any experience with surfing or yoga.
On Wednesday we organise the wood crafting day and teach you how to make your own body board. Working with your hands can distract you from daily stresses and open up your creativity. Feel the power from wood, learn new skills and end the day with a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment.
